MOUNT VERNON — Knox County’s Democrats are kicking off the home stretch of the 2012 election season with the party’s Jefferson-Jackson Dinner on Tuesday, Sept. 18.
Delivering the keynote address will be Congressman Tim Ryan of Ohio’s 17th District. Joyce Healy-Abrams candidate for Ohio’s 7th Congressional District; Ohio Sen. Mike Skindell, candidate for Ohio Supreme Court; and Judge Patricia Delaney of Ohio’s 5th Circuit Court of Appeals will also be meeting Knox County residents at the dinner, along with special guest, former Congressman Zack Space.
Ryan is hailed as an up-and-coming Democrat in Ohio. He was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives in 2003 at the age of 29, representing a northeastern Ohio district that includes Youngstown and his hometown of Niles. He previously served in the Ohio senate. A relentless advocate for working families, Ryan is a member of the House Armed Services Committee and House Budget Committee, and is co-chairman of the Congressional Manufacturing Caucus.
Healy-Abrams, a resident of Canton, built and operated a small business for 10 years. Passionate about civic engagement, she has been involved with a number of Ohio nonprofit organizations committed to arts and education, women’s issues, and children with special needs. Healy-Abrams is a current member of the board of trustees for the Canton Symphony Orchestra and utilizes her entrepreneurial background in key leadership roles. She holds a bachelor’s degree from Capital University and a Master of Business Administration from Case Western Reserve University.
Skindell of Lakewood represents the 23rd District in northern Ohio. He previously served as a state representative and as a member of the Lakewood City Council. Skindell is a voice for working and middle class families, high quality education for all children, and lower tuition for college students and their families.
Candidates John Booth for Knox County Commissioner and John Ryerson for state representative for the 68th District will also speak. The event begins with a cocktail reception at 6 p.m., followed by dinner and remarks at 7.
