MOUNT VERNON — The annual Chili Cook-off and Family Fun Day is a chance for the whole family to have fun, eat chili and help families that are in need.
Slated for Saturday from noon to 4 p.m. at 812 Coshocton Ave., activities include magician Rex Naylor, pony rides from Li’l Piece of Heaven and a bounce house sponsored by Ohio Rental. Youngsters will also have the chance to make a craft item. Throughout the day, the whole family can listen to the classic rock ’n roll sounds of Autumn Daze, bluegrass and gospel from Chestnut Ridge, and musician Noah Stull.
Chili will be available for sale to the public and community members are encouraged to vote for their favorite chili. Judges for this year’s cook-off are Bruce White, chief executive officer of Knox Community Hospital; Jennifer Odenweller, director of the United Way of Knox County; and State Rep. Margaret Ann Ruhl. Those attending will have the chance to buy a raffle ticket to win one of four gift baskets.
The cook-off benefits the Knox County Chapter of the Byron Saunders Foundation. The mission of the foundation is to provide a Thanksgiving meal for those in need. Money raised locally stays in Knox County. In 2011, 251 families received food items for a Thanksgiving meal.
