GAMBIER — Guitar virtuoso Fareed Haque performs at Kenyon College on Saturday at 8 p.m. in Rosse Hall, 105 College Park Dr.
Haque was born to a Pakistani father and Chilean mother and draws heavily from international influences. His familiarity with both jazz and classical guitar has allowed him to work with a range of renowned performers and ensembles. In 2001, Haque co-founded Garaj Mahal, a jam band that blends rock, jazz and Indian styles into its music. Apart from his performing career, Haque transcribes South American and baroque music and composes concertos for the guitar and gamelan. He is an associate professor of jazz and classical guitar studies at Northern Illinois University.
Prior to the concert, Haque will hold a guitar master class for students and faculty from 1 to 3 p.m. in Brandi Recital Hall.
