MARTINSBURG — Discuss the various aspects of oil and gas development and learn how local governments may want to make its own decisions, how to bring your voices together effectively to make them heard and how other communities are doing the same.
Presenters Nathan Johnson, staff attorney for Buckeye Forest Council and Bill Baker, Frack-Free Ohio will be on hand to discuss permitting of horizontal wells and injection wells (for indefinite storage of wastewater), distance required for setbacks between homes and drilling rigs, exclusions (locations off-limits for drilling), spreading of brine (wastewater) on roads, effects of increased road use and resulting damage, Mansfield’s Bill of Rights and the process of creating the bill.
The public is encouraged to attend the event on Thursday, Oct. 25, at Venture House, 22885 Divan Road, Martinsburg. A bring-your-own dinner picnic will take place from 6 to 7 p.m.; the workshop will run from 7 to 9 p.m.
