MOUNT VERNON — The City of Mount Vernon will begin picking up leaves on Monday. There will be three machines operating this season. Two of the machines will be picking up all the main streets first, then proceed to the side streets and outlying areas. The third machine will start on the side streets and outlying areas.
The city emphasises that leaves are to be raked to the curb and not out in the street; this could cause clogs in the storm sewers. Residents are asked to refrain from parking on the street when leaf pick up is scheduled for that area.
The leaf machines will making one pass only so have leaves raked to the curb before crews arrive.
After the leaf schedule is complete, the streets that were picked up during the week of Oct. 29, will be picked up a second time — weather permitting.
For updates on where leaf pick-up is taking place call the Street Department at 393-9501 between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. weekdays.
