MOUNT VERNON — Registrations are being taken at NAMI Knox/Licking County Ohio (NKLCO) for the free NAMI Family to Family Education Program which will begin Monday, Nov. 12, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. at the NKLCO office, now located at 15 E. Vine St., Mount Vernon. The series will continue each Monday through Jan. 28, 2013.
This is a series of 12 weekly classes structured to help caregivers understand and support individuals with serious mental illness while maintaining their own well-being.
Family to Family is an outstanding signature program of NAMI (National Alliance for Mental Illness). It is designed to offer education, better understanding and coping skills to the families of loved ones diagnosed with a serious mental illness such as bipolar disorder, major depression, schizophrenia and others. Participants who have made the commitment of taking the 12-week class describe the impact of taking the course as life changing. Signature programs have been specifically developed and piloted by NAMI to be used by NAMI state organizations and their affiliates. NKLCO is a NAMI Ohio affiliate.
