MOUNT VERNON — Interested Sophomores from area high schools will have an opportunity for an “up close and personal” look at the Knox County Career Center on Nov. 16 and Nov. 19. Students can register with their high school guidance counselors to visit 3 programs (30 minute sessions) of their choice. The sessions allow students to explore technical programs/careers and learn more about various skills taught in the specific vocational programs at the career center.
Sophomore Visitation is a joint planning venture on behalf of the Knox County Career Center and the following school districts: Centerburg, Clear Fork, Danville, East Knox,Utica/Northridge, Fredericktown and Mount Vernon. Sophomore Visitation has traditionally served as a way to introduce high school students to a variety of skills trades programs which are in high demand in today’s work world.
Parents interested in learning more about Sophomore Visitation and the career center’s program offerings are invited to contact Jackie Carpenter at the Career Center’s Student Services Office at (740) 397-5820. Any Sophomore students interested in enrolling at the career center for the 2013-2014 school year, should submit an application form to their high school guidance counselors by Feb. 1, 2013. Many of the career center’s 18 technology programs fill up quickly. Students who are seriously considering one of the exciting programs, should apply as soon as possible following the November visition days.
