FREDERICKTOWN — The Fredericktown community is preparing to host the annual Christmas Walk and Charity Auction to benefit Food For The Hungry. The auction will be held Sunday, Dec. 2, at 1 p.m. in the Fredericktown Senior Center at 2 E. Sandusky St. It is time to begin searching through basements, attics and homes for possible donations. The auction will feature antiques, collectibles, gift baskets, pies, cakes, homemade jams and jellies.
The number of people needing assistance from Interchurch Social Services and The Salvation Army has increased as the economy struggles. This Charity Auction provides funds to help meet the needs for food and other emergency services. Many who never thought they would find themselves in need are helped by donations to the auction. Last year, $4,000 was raised and given equally to Interchurch Social Services and The Salvation Army of Fredericktown.
The community is invited to search their attics and their hearts to see what they may be able to donate to make this auction special. Families, friends, neighbors, churches and organizations are encouraged to partner to create themed baskets, service offerings and gift certificates to donate.
Donations may be dropped off at the Village Office or may be picked up by calling Laurey or Dean Grogg at (740) 358-6846. The Senior Center will be open on Saturday, Dec. 1, from 10 a.m. to noon to accept food donations.
Larry Moore, Hershel Thomas and Jason Gilmore will serve as auctioneers. Receipts can be obtained for donations for tax purposes. For more information, please contact Laurey or Dean Grogg.
