HOWARD — The public is invited to help the Apple Valley Property owners fight hunger in Knox County. Each year clubs and organizations of Apple Valley decorate their best tree for the season, which donors can vote for with tickets received in exchange for donations of food and/or money to benefit Food For The Hungry. It is a coveted honor to be voted the winner.
The Festival of Trees will be on display at Floral Valley Community Center through Dec. 31. Residents will receive two tickets per each dollar donated or one ticket per food item donated. Floral Valley hours are Monday, Wednesday and Thursday, 2 to 8 p.m.; Friday, 2 to 9 p.m.; Saturday, 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.; and Sunday, noon to 8 p.m.
“Everyone gets a good feeling from helping someone else. It doesn’t matter if it’s one can of food or $1, or 10 cans of food or $100,” stated Audrey Spearman, Apple Valley property owner. “Just the act of giving helps everyone.”
Last year Apple Valley collected $878 and one truckload of food. The gift of giving begins with a giving heart and this is Apple Valley’s way of helping fight against hunger here in Knox County.
