MOUNT VERNON — The Knox County Career Center will be hosting its annual Open House on Thursday, Dec. 6, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. A variety of activities are being planned to showcase career education/skilled trades opportunities for high school students as well as adult learners.
The high school programs will offer tours, displays, and a various demonstrations. The Adult Education program coordinators, as well as the financial aid coordinator, will be in the cafetorium to answer questions about the Adult Education offerings at KCCC. In addition, a number of special events will take place including:
•An Italian pasta dinner, prepared by the Chef & Catering students, will be served from 4:30 to 7 p.m. The Chef & Catering students will also be hosting a cake decorating contest and bake sale.
•The Cosmetology salon will be open offering a full range of services. To arrange an appointment, please call 397-5820 ext. 237. •A “silent auction” will be hosted by the Hospitality and Facility Care Services program benefiting community outreach projects. •The Horticulture Department will be selling poinsettias and a variety of cut flowers.
•The KCCC Preschool will offer guided tours of their facility from 5:30 to 7 p.m.
•The Health Technologies programs will be measuring vital signs, including blood pressure, vision/ hearing screening and variety of other health related skills.
•The Computer Integrated Manufacturing class will be demonstrating the use of CNC equipment.
•The KCCC library will host a special Scholastic book fair from 5:30 to 8 p.m.
•The Residential Construction/Remodeling program will be giving demonstrations on the CNC router, laser engraver and home construction.
•The Information Technology lab will raffle off an X-box 360 and cash Visa cards.
•Chair massages by the Adult Education Massage Therapy students will be given.
•Blood pressures by the Adult Education Practical Nursing/Medical Assisting students.
•A Culinary demonstration on “Artistic Fruit Preparation” by the instructor of the new Adult Education Culinary Program, which starts in April.
Many promotional items/giveaways will be offered throughout the night.
•A collection of food items/cash donations for “Food for The Hungry” will be taken. Community members who bring in the most food items/cash donations for the night will receive a special prize.
