MOUNT VERNON — On Saturday, Dec. 8, Food for the Hungry donations will be collected on Public Square in Mount Vernon.
Those who are already out to donate to Food for the Hungry are invited to also make donations to Hurricane Sandy victims between 9 a.m. and noon at the Newark Road Church of Christ, 1200 Newark Road (across from Jeld-Wen).
The Newark Road Church of Christ, working with the Eastside Church of Christ at 1120 Yauger Road and Perry Church of Christ, are collecting donations for Hurricane Sandy victims of Union Beach, N.J. Hats, gloves, scarves, coats, blankets, bedding, as well as Walmart, Target, Kroger, Lowe’s, Home Depot and Kmart gift cards are welcome. Checks may be written to the Newark Road Church of Christ or the Gateway Church of Christ. With these funds, the victims can purchase personal items, such as underwear, building and cleaning materials.
The donations will be sent to The Gateway Church of Christ in Morganville, N.J., which will distribute the donations to the people of Union Beach, where at least 100 homes were destroyed. It will be six to eight months before their homes are completely rebuilt because sewer, water, gas and electric lines have to be restored first.
