CENTERBURG — The Centerburg Joint Recreation District is sponsoring its Third Annual Winter Hike on Sunday at 2 p.m.
The one-mile hike will begin from the park shelter house in Centerburg Community Memorial Park at the corner of Ohio 314 and US 36.
“For those that have made a commitment to get outdoors and exercise, here is your opportunity to start easy,” said Gary Moore, program consultant for CJRD. “The one-mile hike offers an opportunity for families to explore the winter season on a casual and fairly easy route.”
The hike will begin with a fun seasonal family activity, and the participants will return to a warming fire where hot chocolate and cookies will be provided and served by the Heart of Ohio Women’s Club. Seasonal sightings may include winter birds and animal tracks.
Most of the hike will follow a section of the Heart of Ohio Trail, and there will be some brief background and an update on significant trail progress and improvements for trail use from a representative of the Heart of Ohio Trail Committee.
Local Centerburg history local expert Gloria Parsisson will assist in leading the hike and will bring history alive with stops at points of local historical interest along the way. Gloria will also share some of her extensive collection of historical photographs of early Centerburg landmarks when the group returns to the shelter.
