MOUNT VERNON — “The Mormon People,” by Matthew Bowman will be the focus of the next adult book discussion on Tuesday, Jan. 15, at 7 p.m. at the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County, 201 N. Mulberry St., Mount Vernon.
After a renewed focus on Mormonism during the past election, Bowman, an eminent scholar of American evangelicalism explores the history and reflects on the future of this native-born American faith and its connection to the life of the nation. Bowman presents more than 180 years of Mormon history and doctrine, and discusses how it has become one of the fastest-growing religions in the world and had the potential to mark a major turning point in the way Mormonism is perceived by the wider American public and internationally.
The discussion will be led by Pat Crow of the Knox County Convention and Visitors Bureau. The program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served.
