MOUNT VERNON — People who are prisoners are not always locked up somewhere behind bars. In the upcoming Alcove Restaurant’s Dinner Theater you’ll discover a humorous group of characters who truly are prisoners … prisoners of love.

In this warm comedy by Mary Hanes, you’ll meet seven lonely, wise cracking “inmates” of The Alamo, a woebegone motel that is directly across the street from a federal penitentiary in Texas. This is where a group of strangers meet and interact in the most entertaining of ways as they “do time” between visits with loved ones in prison.

The fun all takes place on a sizzling hot Fourth of July weekend and between heated arguments over cards, ordering out for Chinese food, planning a wedding and dreaming of love, these wonderful souls come together and help each other take a stand against loneliness.

Directed by Bruce Jacklin, the cast includes highly talented local actors Andrew Duffy (as Glen), Jackie Hatch-Miller (as Judith), Megan Evans (as Janet), Matt Starr (as Joe), Jacqueline Allen (as Elizabeth), Kelly Lauth (as Luanne) and Ruth Frady (as Mrs. W.). The production crew includes Scott Swingle and Ian Ernsberger (Lights/Sound), Steve Herbst (Set Construction), Chris Aust (Costumes), Carrie Crouch (Posters and Programs) and Kate Redfield (Stage Manager).

Tickets are on sale now for a dinner followed by this humorous play that will be showing weekend evenings at The Alcove Restaurant, 116 S. Main St., Mount Vernon, Feb. 1 through March 2.

Make your reservations online at or call the Alcove Restaurant at (740) 392-3076. You must select your meal choices when you make your reservation. Tickets include the meal choice and the price is all inclusive … performance, selected entrée, beverage, dessert, tax and tip.
