MOUNT VERNON ó United Way of Knox County will be expanding its existing free tax preparation assistance this year to include Super Tax Saturday on Feb. 2. Knox County residents will be served from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Opportunity Knox, 17604 Coshocton Road in Mount Vernon.
United Way volunteers trained in the Ohio Benefit Bank tax program will be assisting residents in completing federal and state returns. No appointment is necessary, just walk in and a volunteer will assist you. Computers will be available for those wishing to use the Ohio Benefit Bank self-serve site.
To qualify, county residents must have had a gross household income of less than $60,000 in 2012. Also, The Benefit Bank cannot support rental, real estate, farm, Schedule C business, and clergy income, as well as most capital gains.
Those interested in participating in Super Tax Saturday should bring the following them with them: OBB Login and Password (if you are returning from previous years); all income forms (W-2s, 1099s, etc.); Social Security Numbers for you, your spouse and your dependents; birth dates for you, your spouse and your dependents; bank account and routing numbers for direct deposit; expense records (1098 forms, charitable contributions); child care providerís EIN or SSN; an last yearís tax documents (in order to e-file.)
Call United Way at 397-5721 if you cannot attend on Saturday and need a scheduled appointment. Daytime and evening appointments are available Tuesday through Friday.
