GAMBIER — A grant from the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences brings accomplished cinematographer Jacek Laskus to Kenyon College for a series of workshops with film students and a public talk on his work.

Laskus, a member of the American Society of Cinematographers, has done feature film, documentary and television work in the United States and around the world. He has also shot a number of music videos. Laskus has worked with directors Robert Altman, Jonathan Demme, Michael Pressman and others. He is a native of Poland and is now based in Los Angeles.

The $5,000 grant helps provide an opportunity for Laskus to work with students from Thursday to Feb. 18. He will discuss his work in a free public talk on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. in the Gund Gallery Community Foundation Theater, 101 1/2 College Drive.

Kenyon students will work with Laskus to plan and execute the cinematography for a short film, said Rebecca Wolf, assistant professor of drama. “With funding from this grant we are able to offer students hands-on experience in cinematography under the guidance of a professional artist,” Wolf said. “Such encounters with working professionals broaden the educational opportunities for our students and help them prepare for the transition from Kenyon to the professional world.”
