MOUNT VERNON — The famous Side Street Strutters Jazz Band will entertain for the Community Concert Association of Knox County at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, March 2, at the Memorial Theater in Mount Vernon.
The group will be celebrating America’s Jazz heritage with selections covering all forms of jazz from the beginning to the present. Do you remember “Pennsylvania 6-5000,” or “Hi-de-hi-de-hi-de-ho,” or “Caledonia?” This group performs with endless energy, easy banter and topnotch showmanship.
“Shiny Stockings,” is the title of this particular program that features vocalist Meloney Collins, a charming and talented performer who will remind the audience of the great songsters of the golden age of jazz. Among her vocals will be, “Sing, Sing, Sing,” “At Last” and “Don’t Get Around Much Anymore.” Collins’ diverse career includes singing with Burt Bacharach, John Tesh and Julie Andrews. Together, the Strutters and Collins create a fantastic musical experience of timeless melodies and expert presentation.
Individual tickets may be purchased at the box office when doors open at 6:30 p.m. As in the past several years, children and students aged 21 and under are admitted free when accompanied by a ticket-holding adult.
