Mount Vernon — The Alzheimer’s Association, Northwest Ohio Chapter will host its Annual Celebration in Mount Vernon on Tuesday, March 5, to provide a brief update on the organization and thank the sponsors, donors, and volunteers that made the Walk to End Alzheimer’s a success.
The inaugural Mount Vernon Walk to End Alzheimer’s, the Chapter’s first Community Managed Walk, had 169 participants and raised nearly $34,000 for Alzheimer’s care, support and research.
The 2013 Annual Celebration will be held from noon to 1 p.m. at the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County, 201 N. Mulberry St. Reservations are requested and can be made by calling the Alzheimer’s Association office toll free at 1-800-272-3900.
Alzheimer’s disease is a progressive disease of the brain which destroys brain cells, causing problems with memory, thinking and behavior severe enough to affect work, lifelong hobbies and social life. Today, Alzheimer’s disease is the sixth-leading cause of death in the United States. There are over 5 million Americans living with Alzheimer’s disease, 38,000 in Northwest Ohio, and over 1,300 in the Mount Vernon area.
