DANVILLE — The Danville and East Knox drama departments have teamed up to present the classic musical, “The Sound of Music.” The curtain goes up at 7 p.m. today and Saturday in the Danville High School theater.
The cast includes about a dozen Danville students and eight or so East Knox students. Danville’s Kimmy Hansen plays Maria, a novice nun turned governess to the von Trapp family. Captain von Trapp is played by East Knox thespian Tony Gault. Katie Frye, Danville, serves in the role of Mother Abbess while East Knox actors John Nouse and Joe Byers portray Rolf and Max, respectively. The von Trapp children are all from Danville, but not on purpose, said co-director Steve Butcher. They are: Liesl, played by Kaylin Rex; Friedrich, Aaron Vess; Louisa, Amber Pitsenberger; Kurt, Alex Metcalf; Brigitta, Hannah Frye; Marta, Maria Mickley; and Gretl, Sidney Lyons.
The interdistrict collaboration continues off stage. Co-director Lacey Bailey is a teacher at East Knox. Danville band director Christie Cochran will be conducting the actors and orchestra while East Knox band director Gary Young will be playing French horn in the orchestra pit. He is joined by two Danville alumni, three current Danville students, four East Knox students and one West Holmes student.
The entire county is invited to enjoy this fine example of “shared services.” For ticket information call 740-599-7000, ext. 2002.
