MOUNT VERNON — Knox County Head Start Inc., through the support of the Ohio Children’s Trust Fund and the Knox County Family and Children First Council, is offering a free training in the “Active Parenting Now” curriculum. This fun, yet relaxed training will be a Lunch and Learn session offered at the Mount Vernon Public Library. The intended audience is parents and/or caregivers of children ages 5 through 12.
The Lunch and Learn will be held each Friday, beginning April 5, from noon to 1 p.m. The sessions will run six consecutive weeks, ending Friday, May 10. Attendees will receive the book, “Active Parenting Now: Parent’s Guide,” at the first session and may keep the book when they sign up for the six-week series. Each week a video from the series will be viewed and participants will discuss the readings from the book. Attendees will also get a $5 gas stipend each week.
Active Parenting Now helps parents improve their communication with their child, diffuse power struggles, teach responsibility and other important values to their child and to begin to stimulate independence as the chid grows older. It is said in Active Parenting, “Happy families aren’t born ... they’re made one day at a time.” Call 740-397-1344, ext. 237, to sign up. Deadline for registration is Monday, April 1.
