DANVILLE — “Critical Care Ministry or When Pastoral Care Makes All the Difference” is the title of a continuing education event for clergy which will be held on Tuesday, April 9, from 9 a.m. to noon at St. Luke Community Center, 7 W. Rambo St., Danville

Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. with coffee and refreshments. Lunch will follow immediately after the seminar.

The seminar, sponsored by the Association of Danville Area Ministers, will be led by Rev. Arthur C. Lund (retired), B.A., M. Div., who was director of chaplaincy services for 28 years at Holzer Medical Center in Gallipolis. Lund was also a congregational minister for 10 years. As a hospital chaplain, he was a clinical member of the Association of Pastoral Education, member of the Association of Professional Chaplains, co-founder of the Holder Medical Center Ethics Committee, member of the Ohio Chaplains Association Board of Directors and served on the clergy advisory board of the Ohio American Cancer Society. At Holder Medical Center Chaplain Lund developed a pastoral care training program for regional clergy who served as volunteer chaplains in the hospital.

In the seminar, Lund will address pastoral care issues facing local pastors who are called to the hospital to minister to patients and family members in the emergency department, intensive care unit, coronary care unit and other areas of the hospital. Lund will speak on understanding the dynamics at work in those people the pastor is called on to minister to in critical care situations. Pastors attending will gain an understanding of the emotional and spiritual needs of people in these times of stress. The seminar will also address the pastor’s critical role in ministering to family members upon the death of their loved one.

He will use Dr. Alan Wolfelt’s “Common Myths About Grief” to assist clergy in providing more effective pastoral care in these difficult experiences. Lund will address how effective pastoral care, offered in critical care ministry, can assist and support members of the hospitals’ medical team. Time will be provided for seminar participants to engage in dialogue with the speaker.

There is a cost for the seminar which covers handouts, noon lunch and a certificate of attendance. Early registration is needed to help prepare for the event. Participants may register by sending their name, church address and fee to Adam Spring Seminar, St. Luke Community Center, 7 W. Rambo Street, Danville, OH, 43014.
