GAMBIER — Family Day at Kenyon College on Saturday combines art and nature in a range of free activities.
Families can start the day at 9:30 a.m. at the Graham Gund Gallery, 101 1/2 College Drive, where children of all ages can try their hands at making artistic crafts to take home. Guided tours through the gallery will be conducted by Gund Gallery student associates. “Stop spots” will be set up in the gallery, making the tours an interactive experience with materials and objects that are related to the art works, said assistant director Megan E. Hancock. The gallery event ends at 12:30 p.m.
That leaves plenty of time for families to drop in at the Brown Family Environmental Center Budburst Family Adventure Day, from 1 to 5 p.m. The environmental center, 9781 Laymon Road, will provide a guided walk at 2 p.m. to discover wild flowers and wild, edible plants. Families can take part in a scavenger hunt and craft at any time during the afternoon. Nets are on hand for families who want to explore environmental center ponds. The environmental center hosts a first-Saturday event each month, said program manager Heather Doherty.
