MOUNT VERNON — The swinging, funky sounds of jazz wlll fill the Mount Vernon Middle School Commons on Friday with the 56th annual Tops-N-Pops concert.
The performance starts at 7:30 p.m. will feature the Mount Vernon Middle School Jazz Band under the direction of Suzy Springer, the Mount Vernon Mellow Jackets, Andrew Sundman, director, and the Kenyon College Jazz Ensemble with Ted Buehrer directing.
“This is a great evening of jazz music by our own musicians,” Sundman told the News. “Our students will be playing music from many different styles and times periods. We try to expose our students to major concepts of swing, rock, funk and Latin styles. This is a special event because has it been a long-standing tradition in our community. Join us for a wonderful evening of jazz.”
Light snacks and soft drinks will be available for purchase at the performance. Admission is through donation and all proceeds go to the Mount Vernon Music Boosters.
