MOUNT VERNON — The Redhead Express and the Walker Family has a fascinating story. There are nine of them living in an RV with a chocolate lab, sharing their love of music and talents all across this country. They roll into Mount Vernon for the final concert of the Community Concert Association’s 2012-13 season on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the Memorial Theater.
Brett and Apryll grew up in different states, but in large families of musicians. The fireworks began on their first date when Brett sang to Apryll. It was love at first sight and sound. As the children came along, it was only natural that dad would inspire the singing and mother taught them piano at age 5. Some of the seven youngsters learned to play additional instruments until the Walker family eventually realized they had a family band. They performed for farmers markets, nursing homes and local coffee shops while receiving admiration from all who heard them.
On Thanksgiving Day 2007, the Walker Family left their Alaskan home and have traveled the country performing some 200 shows a year. Having performed two seasons in Branson, they are now pursuing a country career in Nashville. Their show is filled with variety — a song for everyone.
This “American Roots Show” features country, bluegrass, Irish, gospel and some of their originals. Expect to hear tight harmonies, hard driving instrumentals and an evening of lots of fun.
As usual, individual tickets are for sale at the box office when the doors open at 6:30 p.m. Children and students under the age of 22 are admitted free when accompanied by a ticket holding adult.
