FREDRICKTOWN — Throughout the day today the churches of Fredericktown will lead the community in prayers for the nation at the Gazebo. Then, at 7 p.m., there will be a public gathering devoted to prayer for our village.
Every hour until 5 p.m., the various congregations will offer prayers for America. Citizens are cordially invited to stop by the gazebo at any convenient time to pray on behalf of the nation and its leadership.
The observance will conclude with the 7 p.m. public service at the Gazebo. During this final hour, prayers will focus on the local community. Prayers will be offered for local businesses, for the schools and churches, for police and firefighters, and for elected officials and employees in village government.
By act of Congress, the first Thursday of May is designated as the National Day of Prayer. The national chairperson for this 62nd annual observance is Shirley Dobson. Rev. Mike Smith is the Fredericktown chairperson. Honorary Chairperson is Mrs. Louise Francisco, who will give the opening prayer at the 7 p.m. gathering.
Fredericktown joins millions across the country in observing this year’s theme, “Pray for America.”
