MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon Players, Knox County’s oldest community theater group, will present A.R. Gurney’s Pulitzer Prize-nominated play “Love Letters” on Mother’s Day, May 12, at 2 and 6 p.m. at WineStein, 156 Howard St. Additional performances will be presented June 15 at 2 p.m. and Father’s Day, June 16, at 2 and 6 p.m.
“Love Letters” follows the epistolary relationship between Melissa Gardner and Andrew Markpeace Ladd III, two friends since the second grade. The audience experiences Melissa and Andrew’s unique friendship and romance through the notes, letters, postcards and holiday greetings they wrote to one another. This witty, funny and touching play captures a world gone by, where letter writing (not Facebook messages or Tweets) were an essential form of communication — especially between men and women.
“Love Letters” will be presented by a different set of actors each night of the performance, and features the talents of local thespians Jennifer Casner, Douglas Gustafson, Dana Kemmer, Dorothy Michalski, Ira Mowery, Aaron Paulley, Tammy Souhrada, Amy Stoner, Jim Stoner and Carl Young. The play is directed by Aaron Paulley and presented by special arrangement with Dramatists Play Service Inc., New York.
