MOUNT VERNON — In honor of Mental Health Month, The Knox County Task Force for Older Adults invites the community to attend the 2013 Mental Health Community Awareness Event on May 15, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at The Station Break, 160 Howard St.
There will be information and treats from mental health providers from the Knox County area, as well as a free lunch for senior citizens who call to register at 397-2417.
The task force is a voluntary, nonprofit association of Knox County, the Task Force for Older Adults seeks to strengthen the human services organizations in Knox County in order to improve the quality of life for all Knox County older adults.
Membership in the association is open to individuals, organizations and businesses that are interested and involved in the human services sector of Knox County. By uniting representatives who are interested and involved in the human services sector, the TFOA hopes to maintain and improve services made available to local senior citizens.
Each year, the TFOA sponsors senior health fairs, regularly scheduled educational seminars for task force members and community service projects. The goal of TFOA is to identify the needs of community-based older adults in Knox County and assist in meeting those needs within the community through collaborative efforts of public and private agencies and/or individuals.
