FREDERICKTOWN — The final selections have been made for qualifiers in the 34th annual Mount Vernon News SpecTRACKular.
This year’s event shifts to Fredericktown High School, taking place Friday with field events beginning at 4:30 p.m. and track events around 5:45 p.m. Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students.
SpecTRACKular is an all-star track meet gathering the best performances from the News area and beyond. The Top 8 times/distances in each category qualify for SpecTRACKular.
There is no team score; instead, the meet emphasizes the athletes and their individual accomplishments.
SpecTRACKular was created by former News sports editor Joe Wasiluk, who would print the Top 10 performances of area athletes in each event every week. Wasiluk decided to showcase the athletes in their own meet following the 1980 season, and it became an annual tradition from there.
