MOUNT VERNON — “Fever in the Leaves: Climate Change, Plants and People” is the title of the discussion Drew Kerkhoff will lead at the second in a series of forums sponsored by the Knox County Democratic Women. The event will be held Tuesday, June 4, at 7 p.m. in the lower-level meeting room of the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County.
Kerkhoff is an associate professor in the Departments of Biology, Mathematics and Statistics at Kenyon College. He is a quantitative ecologist, uses mathematical models, experiments, and data analysis to understand interactions between living things and their environment. He has a special interest in the ecological importance of plants, especially trees, from the evolution of insects that feed on leaves to the biodiversity of forests and their effect on the global carbon cycle.
As always, these forums focus on topics of vital interest to the citizens of Knox County. The general public is encouraged to attend this conversation on the impact of climate change at the local, state and national level. More information can be found at www.knoxdwc.org or on the Knox County Democratic Women Facebook page.
