MOUNT VERNON — John Bobo from The Slang will appear Friday at 6 p.m. at Sips, 101 S. Main St. He will be performing an acoustic set list comprised of original material and cover songs. His band is releasing an EP this summer that was recorded at the famed “Cutting Room” studios in New York City and mixed by Mark Needham in Los Angeles.

Established in 2006, this Columbus-based alternative/power pop rock band, The Slang, is ready to make its mark on the music industry by releasing its debut self-titled EP this summer. Lead vocalist and guitarist John Bobo, and drummer Chip Burke were introduced in 2003 through a mutual friend within their local music scene.

Both guys had their previous bands dissolve at the same time due to life changes of their members and decided to team up. Bobo and Burke were mutually known within their local artist community for being reliable band mates, and appreciated one another’s writing and performing skills.

With Bobo being influenced by traditional and alternative rock and Burke more influenced by electronic, world, classical, jazz and metal, together they have developed a truly unique sound.

The Slang is currently recording an EP in New York City at Modern Vintage Recordings with accomplished producer and engineer Jason Cummings, who specializes in the development of unique and memorable sounds.
