MOUNT VERNON — “Still Waters Run Deep” will be the topic of the next Groundbreaking Reads Adult Summer Reading Program on Wednesday, June 19, at noon at the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County, 201 N. Mulberry St.

Retired educators and community advocates Dan and Barb Humphrey will share their story of how one African village worked together — Christians and Muslims — with some Americans who wanted to make a difference and drilled two new water wells for the village. When the country was ravaged by cholera shortly after, the sanitary wells spared the villagers from disaster.

Since their return to Sierra Leone last June, a country where the couple had served as educators in the 1970s, the Humphreys and a group of 15 donors have helped to provide clean water to sites in Gabon, Burkina Faso and Mali with plans to continue in the future.

The Humphreys will share their experiences and lessons learned including that sometimes the most important things in life ... are not things at all. The program is free and open to the public. Refreshments will be served. Participants will be eligible for door prizes and can register for the Groundbreaking Reads Adult Summer Reading Program for weekly and grand prize drawings.

For information call the main library at 740-392-BOOK (2665), ext. 243; visit; or email
