MOUNT VERNON — WNZR 90.9 FM will host a fireworks viewing party on Wednesday. The party will be held near the Morrison Facilities Services building on the northeast end of Mount Vernon Nazarene University, 800 Martinsburg Road. Families are invited to a night of fun as the community celebrates independence with the Mount Vernon fireworks display.
WNZR’s Fireworks Viewing Party starts at 8 p.m. with music, outdoor games and concessions provided by WNZR staff members and Ohio Farm Direct.
WNZR's Liberty Games will be held at 9 p.m. Twenty families will get the chance to participate in a game that involves 3 rounds that will test their luck, skill and intelligence. The winner will receive “The Roar & Explore” Prize Package courtesy of Experience Columbus, valued at over $375.
The Roar & Explore package includes:
•Four tickets to The Columbus Zoo and Aquarium,
•Four tickets to Zoombezi Bay, the water park adjacent to the Columbus Zoo,
•Four tickets to COSI and
•Two nights of accommodations at a Columbus-area Drury Inn & Suites.
WNZR will also provide a patriotic mix of music to complement the fireworks display, which will be presented over Memorial Park at approximately 10 p.m. The approximately 20-minute soundtrack will include a mix of patriotic and popular music, blended with special thoughts and prayers in a salute to our American troops. Residents and visitors are encouraged to bring their portable radios or tune their car radios to 90.9 FM to add to their fireworks enjoyment.
WNZR will also host a NEW Kid’s Zone this year providing a fun, safe play area for young children. The Dream Catchers 4-H Club will have a bounce house for donations. The Heritage Centre Association will be on site selling rubber duck entry packets for the upcoming Rubber Duck River Race, which will be held at September’s First Friday. Operation Christmas Child will also be on site passing out information on the Shoebox Ministry. Attendees are reminded to enter using the main campus entrance off Martinsburg Road, as Cougar Drive will be closed for the fireworks display. MVNU is a tobacco and alcohol-free campus.
Mount Vernon Fire Chief Chris Menapace reminds the public that consumer fireworks are prohibited in the state of Ohio and will not be permitted on the MVNU facilities.
