FREDERICKTOWN — Once again, Fredericktown Community Park will be buzzing with activity on the Fourth of July, as the Fredericktown Recreation District holds its annual celebration. The park is at Ohio 95 East at the north edge of the village.
As in past years, the Fredericktown Lions Club will serve their famous brats and fries during the daylong event. The local Thrall Lodge and several other organizations will be sponsoring different food and game concessions as well.
Community Park’s ball fields will be busy with a co-ed softball tournament during the day. Also the gates of the Sockman Lake swimming beach will be thrown open at noon for a day of free swimming for all.
The Fredericktown Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor bingo in the park’s enclosed shelter house, beginning at 1 p.m. and running until dark. Kids’ games, sponsored by the Fredericktown Lions Club, will begin at 3 p.m. inside the lake area, with events planned for children ages 2 to 14.
As the day winds down, attendees are encouraged to bring their lawn chairs and blankets to enjoy the live music of the popular band Southbound, which will be returning to entertain again this year, beginning at 7:30 p.m.
The finale of the daylong celebration will, of course, be the fireworks display beginning at 10 p.m. Plans are for this year’s display to be the biggest and best ever. But don’t rush off, Southbound will play again after the fireworks. In case of inclement weather, the rain date for the fireworks display will be the following night.
