MOUNT VERNON — The Mount Vernon Players, Knox County’s oldest community theater organization, will present Stephen Sondheim’s beloved classic “Into the Woods” at the Memorial Theater, Oct. 31 through Nov. 3.
Auditions for this family-friendly, fractured fairy-tale will be held at ThePlace@TheWoodward, 111 S. Main St., on Aug. 2 beginning at 5 p.m. and Aug. 3 beginning at 9 a.m.

The show is directed by Aaron Paulley along with musical director Virginia Cameron and choreographer Michelle Betz.
There are roles for 14 women, eight men and one boy. Ages of the characters range from 16 to 60; except for the boy, who is between the ages of nine and 12. Also needed are four to six puppeteers and two to four stagehands.
All candidates should prepare 32 bars of an upbeat show tune (a selection from “Into the Woods” is acceptable) and a ballad. A copy of the libretto is available at the circulation desk of the Mount Vernon library for perusal.
