MOUNT VERNON — David Kender will host Open Mic Night at 6:30 p.m. the last Tuesday of July and August at Sips Coffee House and Deli.
Kender has been a solo artist most of his life. He started at a young age playing piano and violin and singing in the choir. At age 18 he moved from Ohio to the east coast to further pursue his music career. He played with various musicians from all over New England. He played Freedom Fest of Maine in 2001 and 2002, and played at the Northern State Fair of Maine; and also at Silver Tongue Productions, Manchester, N.H., in 2003. David moved back to Ohio in 2005, and formed PoorFolk, a bluegrass/rock band. PoorFolk played the blueberry festival battle of the bands, taking on dozens of hard rock bands and his all-acoustic group won second place. They played various states across the Midwest.
After the group disbanded in 2008, he started to focus on his songwriting once again, and has been bouncing from clubs to coffee houses, and even street corners ... anything to get his music heard. His music ranges from folk, rock, jazz, soul to bluegrass. His specialties in music are lyrics and rhythm guitar.
The public is invited to join David Kender at Sips, 101 S. Main St., for open mic night July 23 and Aug. 27.
