MOUNT VERNON — Cut a limb off a tree, strip away the bark and look at the beauty of the wood inside. Every species is unique — in its color, its grain structure and its strength. But to the intarsia artist, the differences found beneath the bark can be used the same as different paints on canvas when pieces are used to form patterned mosaics.

Join woodworking enthusiast and intarsia hobbyist/artist Roy Glaser as he shares his knowledge of this ancient art form and some of his hand-hewn treasures at “Beauty Beneath the Surface — The Art of Wood Intarsia” Groundbreaking Reads Brown Bag Chat on Wednesday at noon at the Public Library of Mount Vernon and Knox County.

All programs are free and open to the public. Feel free to bring a bag lunch. Refreshments will be served.

“Groundbreaking Reads” Adult Summer Reading Program registration packets, door prizes and grand prize entry tickets will be available.

For more information, stop in the main library at 201 N. Mulberry St.; call 740-392-2665, ext. 243; visit; or email
