MOUNT VERNON — “Disaster Preparedness” will be the topic Monday, Oct. 21, from 6:30 to 9 p.m., at the Mount Vernon Aglow Lighthouse. Melody Brent will be the guest speaker.
Brent is passionate about being prepared for an emergency and improving her skills. Brent trains for local, state and federal disaster response.
When Hurricane Sandy devastated the eastern seaboard, she was one of the first to respond. Her actions in the shelter were quickly noticed, and she has risen in the Red Cross ranks to be considered a National Shelter Manager.
Brent organized and managed a shelter for 1,200 persons. When another national disaster occurs, Knox County’s Melody Brent will be called on to assist.
Brent has been a volunteer for Hospice for 27 years. She is also an active volunteer for Lions Club, Medical Reserve Corps, advisory board of The Salvation Army, Exchange Club and the American Red Cross.
She has lots of important information about disaster preparedness to share. Meetings are free and open to the public.
The meeting will take place in the annex of the Covenant Christian Church, 13360 New Delaware Road.
