Lewis J. Ferris
MOUNT VERNON — Lewis James Ferris, 85, of Mount Vernon passed away Friday, Jan. 30, 2004, at The Laurels of Mount Vernon.

He was born Jan. 31, 1918, in Licking County, the son of Grant and Maud (Shepherd) Ferris and had been a resident of the Mount Vernon area all of his life. Lewis had served as a medical technician in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater. He worked for Shellmar/Continental Can/Ludlow for 42 1/2 years, retiring in February 1983, and was a member of the Woods Christian Church.

He is survived by his loving wife, Hazel H. (Durbin) Ferris, whom he married Oct. 18, 1940; a son, Arthur Dean Ferris of Mount Vernon; two daughters, Linda Frazee of Mount Vernon and Norma (Gary) Dickerson of Howard; five grandsons; two great-grandsons; four stepgreat-grandchildren; and a close friend, Leon Williams of Utica.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by 10 brothers and sisters; and special friends, Leonard Brown, Lester Kreider and Reginald Folden.

Funeral service was today at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home with Pastor Thomas Booth officiating. Interment, with military honors provided by Knox County Joint Veterans Council, followed in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.

Willis E. Morrison
MOUNT VERNON — Willis Ellis Morrison, 84, of Mount Vernon, formerly of Mount Liberty, passed away Jan. 31, 2004, at the Country Court Nursing Center in Mount Vernon.

He was born Nov. 23, 1919, in Rising Sun to John and Theresa (Burns) Morrison. He had lived most of his life in the Knox County area, was a member of the Methodist Church, a World War II Army veteran, a farmer, and a tank operator for Chattanooga Glass of Mount Vernon.

He is survived by his daughters, Karen Hall of Marion and Nancy (Curt) Murphy of Bucyrus; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Bob of California; and a sister, Helen LaRoche of Pennsylvania.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Gladys, this past December; a daughter, Susan Sears; a brother, Corvin; a brother-in-law, James LaRoche; and a son-in-law, Danny Hall.

The family will receive friends today from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Centerburg United Methodist Church, where funeral service will be held Wednesday at 1 p.m. The Rev. Gary Pollock will officiate. Interment to follow in Eastview Cemetery. Arrangements were entrusted to the Bennett Brown Rodman Funeral Home in Delaware.

Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Knox County, the Diabetes Foundation, the Heart Fund, or the charity of the donor’s choice.

Chloe G. Ramey
SUNBURY — Chloe Gladieth Ramey, 85, of Sunbury departed this earthly life Monday, Feb. 2, 2004, at St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville.

She was born July 25, 1918, in Johnson County, Ky., to Logan and Florence (Castle) Lemaster.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband of 37 years, Earl B. Ramey, who died in 1975; a brother, Ochal; a sister, Oneida Jewell Lemaster; and a great-granddaughter, Tawny Totten.

Chloe Lemaster and Earl Ramey were united in marriage March 11, 1938 in Ashville. To this loving union six surviving children were born, Oneida Sue (Gene) Sparks, Russell Nickey, Earl Ray and Dinah Kay (Jim) Mead, all of Sunbury, Elaine (Tim) Tackett of Kilbourne, Marsha Fay (Emery) Ramey of Marengo; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; and many cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.

Friends may call Wednesday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at 61, Sunbury, where funeral will be Thursday at 1 p.m. Pastor J.R. Smith will officiate and interment will be in Sunbury Memorial Park.

Lillian E. Slaughter
WARSAW — Lillian Esther Slaughter, 85, of Township Road 59, Warsaw, died Feb. 1, 2004, at Coshocton County Memorial Hospital.

She was born May 8, 1918, in Wausau, Wis., to John Frederick and Odessa Mae (Blackson) Stockum. She was a homemaker, a devoted mother and grandmother. She loved to travel and take pictures. She was a member of the Coshocton OES, the Nellie Chapel United Methodist Church and she attended the Warsaw Church of the Nazarene.

She is survived by three sons, George “Randy” (Donna) Slaughter of Coshocton, John H. (Linda) Slaughter and Lyndon E. (Marlene) Slaughter of Warsaw; five daughters, Judy (Lawrence) Wiley of Nellie, Joanie (Larry) Mikesell of Coshocton, Ada Rose and Susie (Jay) Kauffman of Warsaw, and Gayle Stevens of Coshocton; 25 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; a brother, Glen (Virginia) Stockum of Newark; a sister, Violet Schuler of Coshocton; and a sister-in-law, Ruth Stockum of Coshocton.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, George E. Slaughter, whom she married Aug. 14, 1938, he died June 23, 1988; a daughter, Andrea; two brothers, Lewis and Lester Stockum; and two grandchildren, Lorena Bolen and Lance Ferrell.

Funeral will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Fischer Funeral Home in Warsaw with the Rev. Wilbur Beaver officiating. Burial will be in the Valley View Cemetery at Warsaw. Visitation will be today from 6 to 8 p.m. and until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.
