Margaret Chilcote
UTICA — Margaret Chilcote, 88, of Utica died Jan. 8, 2004, at Knox Community Hospital.

She was born Oct. 1, 1915, in Delaware to Harry and Purses (Atkinson) Traxler. She attended the Church of Christ and was a member of the Utica Senior Citizens.

She is survived by a daughter, Vicki Alley of Escondido, Calif.; two grandchildren; and a sister, Pat Richard of Fairborn.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Paul H. Chilcote, in 1977.

A private graveside service will be held in South Lawn Cemetery. The Law-Baker Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Thomas DeWinter Jr.
MOUNT VERNON — Thomas R. DeWinter Jr., 49, of Mount Vernon died Thursday, Jan. 8, 2004, at his residence. The Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon is in charge of arrangements.

Roberta ‘Bertie’ Metzger
SUNBURY — Roberta E. “Bertie” Metzger, 87, of Sunbury died Monday evening, Jan. 5, 2004, at Morrow County Hospital, Mount Gilead.

She was born April 5, 1916, in Mount Liberty, Knox County, to Harold H. and Aletha E. (Morris) Hall. The homemaker was a lifelong area resident.

She is survived by a daughter, Thelma (Lewis) Nininger of Centerburg; two sons, Kenneth Arlo Metzger of Marengo and Ralph Metzger of Columbus; eight grandchildren, 16 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Edith (Harvey) Landis of Fort Lee, N.J.

In addition to her parents she was proceeded by her husband of 68 years, Joseph M. Metzger, on Aug. 6, 2003; and three brothers, Dwight, Gail and Carl.

Friends may call Saturday from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at 61, Sunbury, where funeral will follow at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow in the Mount Pleasant Cemetery.

Alice M. Mortimer
FREDERICKTOWN — Alice Marie Mortimer, 96, of Fredericktown died Friday, Jan. 9, 2004, at the Country Court Nursing Home in Mount Vernon. The Snyder Funeral Home in Fredericktown is in charge of arrangements.

Larry M. Teeter
LOUDONVILLE — Larry M. Teeter, 59, of Washington Township Road 457, Loudonville, died Wednesday morning, Jan. 7, 2004, at his home after a one-year illness.

Mr. Teeter was born May 26, 1944, in Mount Vernon and was the son of Harley Philip and Mary Margaret (Leedy) Teeter. Larry was a 1962 graduate of Butler High School and 1967 graduate of The Ohio State University with a B.S. in agriculture. He was a 21-year employee of the Ohio Agriculture Research and Development Center, Wooster, and then was employed with Agri Mark, Loudonville. Recently, he worked with neighboring farmers. Larry loved farming and hunting, and was a member of Loudonville United Methodist Church and former member of the Loudonville Lions Club. He was a U.S. Army veteran of the Vietnam era, serving as a military color guard.

Larry is survived by his three daughters, Kimberly Teeter of Loudonville, Leah Teeter of Akron and Rene Teeter of Billings, Mont.; his former wife, Carolyn (Squires) Teeter of Nashville; and five sisters, Joan Boyce of Mansfield, Beverly (Marion) Althouse of Bucyrus, Mary Lou (Dean) Conger of Mount Vernon, and Bernice Kearns and Patricia (Lee) Bailey, both of Butler.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a daughter, Heather Marie Teeter, in 1969; and a brother, Donald Charles Teeter, in 1994.

Memorial service will be Saturday at 4 p.m. at the Loudonville United Methodist Church with the Rev. Patricia Reiter officiating. The American Legion and VFW will also conduct military honors at the church. Friends may visit with family on Saturday from 2 to 4 p.m. at the church. Burial will be in North Liberty Cemetery at a later date.

Elden E. Zell
MOUNT VERNON — Elden E. Zell, 64, of 195 Mansfield Road, Mount Vernon, died Jan. 8, 2004, at his residence.

He was born July 19, 1939, in Jackson, Mich., to LaVerne F. and Lillian (Butterfield) Zell. He was a member of the BPO Elks 140, the Loyal Order of Moose, the Live Oak Golf and Country Club in Fruitland, Florida and the Mount Vernon Country Club. He was an Army veteran and was a retired administrator of the Mount Vernon Developmental Center, retiring in 1994. Elden was an avid golfer and OSU fan.

He is survived by his wife, Irene Williams-Zell; a daughter, Stephanie (Jim) Shipley of Mansfield; two stepsons, Max (Lael) Williams of Mount Vernon and Rick (Janice) Williams of Columbus; a stepdaughter, Vicki Williams of Columbus; three grandsons, Zach (Angie) Williams, and Ricky and Alex Williams; one granddaughter, Kayla Williams; one sister, Goldene Tennant of Fruitland, Fla.; two brothers, Merlyn Zell of Bellefountaine and Lynn Zell of Marysville.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife, Charlotte Zell; and three brothers, Gordon, Glendale and Kerryn Zell.

There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be Monday at 3:30 p.m. at the North-Dilley Funeral Home in Mount Vernon with Merlyn and Lynn Zell will officiate.
