Denver Burton Sr.
GALENA — Denver L. Burton Sr., 60, of Galena died Friday morning, Jan. 30, 2004, at St. Ann’s Hospital, Westerville.

He was born March 8, 1943, in Stollings, W.Va., to Arbie D. and Edith M. (Fry) Burton. He was a graduate of Watkins Memorial High School Class of 1951 and moved to Galena in 1972 from Hillard.

He is survived by his wife of 41 years, Ruth (Martin); a son, Denver Jr. (his fiancee, Mindy Thoman) of Delaware; three daughters, Julie (Tim) Scott of Sunbury, Brenda (James) Davis of Warfield, Ky., Kimberly “Lamb” (her fiancé, Ron Spears) of Delaware; 15 grandchildren; a brother, Larry (Diane) Burton of Columbus; a sister, Sue Zimmerman of Columbus; and friends and family.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a granddaughter, Laura M. Burton; a brother, Doug Burton; a sister, Liz Kline.

Friends may call Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. and Monday from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at 61, Sunbury, where funeral will be Monday at 1:30 p.m. Interment will be in Glen Rest Memorial Estates.

James ‘J.R.’ Edwards
OSTRANDER — James “J.R.” Edwards, 69, of Ostrander died Thursday evening, Jan. 29, 2004, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.

He was born May 9, 1934, in Sunbury to Vada “Johnny” and Irene L. (Rarick) Edwards. He was a graduate of Sunbury High School Class of 1952 and was a U.S. Navy veteran. He was a retired maintenance mechanic from the Delaware County engineers office.

Jim enjoyed horses, cutting wood and was a member of the Ohio Standard Bred Association, U.S. Trotters Association and the Ohio Trotters Association.

He is survived by a son, Doug (Sharon) Edwards of Cardington; a daughter, Kathy Oliver of Marion; four grandchildren, Jacob, Kyle, Trevor and Tracy; and a sister, Helen L. Bowers of Glendale, Ariz.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Friends may call Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at 61, Sunbury, where funeral will be Monday at 11 a.m. Pastor Larry Griffin will officiate. Burial will follow in Sunbury Memorial Park.

Ethelyn Giffin
MOUNT VERNON — F. Ethelyn Giffin, 84, of Mount Vernon died Jan. 27, 2004, at the Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.

She was born Nov. 13, 1919, in Mount Vernon to Russell and Martha (Tucker) Charlton, and had lived her lifetime in the Mount Vernon area. She was a 1939 graduate of Mount Vernon High School. Ethelyn was an active member of the First Christian Church on Vine Street in Mount Vernon, where she managed the nursery for 25 years and was a member of the Good Shepherd Sunday School Class.

Surviving are her children, Lois (Tom) Speer and Robert (Jodi) Giffin, both of Mount Vernon, Edward (Teresa) Giffin of Fredericktown and Kelley Jean (Timothy) Ashcraft of Howard; 13 grandchildren; six great-grandchilden; and her sister-in-law, Betty Charlton of Findlay.

Besides her parents, her husbands, Earl Hopwood and James Giffin; and her brother, Russell “Tuck” Charlton, preceded her in death.

The funeral will be today a 10 a.m. in the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon. The Rev. Jamie Gump will officiate. Burial will follow in Mound View Cemetery.
