Sadie T. Allen
MOUNT VERNON — Sadie T. Allen, 90, of Delano Street, Mount Vernon, went to be with her Lord on Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004, at her granddaughter’s residence.

She was born Sept. 27, 1913, in Wayne County, W.Va., to Wade and Jinnie (Hayton) Thompson. Sadie was a member of the Newark Road Church of Christ. She had worked as a half parent for Ohio Soldiers and Sailors Home, both in Mount Vernon and Xenia.

She is survived by a daughter, Deloris (Donald) Ivers of Columbus; a son-in-law, Elmer Tomblin of Sparta; a stepson, Zollie (Judy) Lawhon Jr. of Glenwood, W.Va.; stepdaughter, Nell White of Mount Airy, N.C.; 11 grandchildren, Terry (Lori) Tomblin, Debbie Snow, Timothy Tomblin, Jerry Tomblin, Elmer Tomblin Jr., Sam Tomblin, Cora (Eric) Schirtzinger, Jennifer (Paul) Beach, Peggy Kraft, David Kraft and Steven Ivers; 26 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Pearl Bailey of Florida and Edna Simpson of West Monroe, La.; and a host of nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Zollie Lawhon Sr.; her second husband, Robert Allen; two daughters, Helen Arlene Lawhon and Genevieve Tomblin; three sisters, Zula Artrip, Bertha Gibson and Erie Estham; and three brothers, Taylor Thompson, Charlie Thompson and Boyd Thompson.

Friends may call Wednesday from 1 to 3 and 6 to 8 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home. Funeral will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at the funeral home, where friends may call one hour prior. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.

Wayne L. Crider
MOUNT VERNON — Wayne L. Crider, 73, of East Gambier Street, Mount Vernon, died Sunday, Feb. 22, 2004, at Knox Community Hospital. The Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Jane M. Hurlow
MOUNT VERNON — Jane M. Hurlow, 79, of Murray Road, Mount Vernon, went to be with her Lord on Friday, Feb. 20, 2004.

She was born March 9, 1924, in Mount Vernon to Lester and Fannie (Moreland) Beever. She retired in 1990 after many years of working on the family dairy farm. She was a member of the Grove Church of Christ, Knox Chapter 236 Order of Eastern Star, Mother of Twins Club and the Beta Alpha Sorority.

She is survived by three sons, C. Ronald (Julia) Hurlow, C. Randall (Rose) Hurlow and David L. (Lynne) Hurlow, all of Mount Vernon; a son-in-law, Gary Albert of Mount Vernon; seven grandchildren, Jennifer, Erica, Cindy, Chuck, Chris, Jeff and Josh; seven great-grandchildren, Tyler, Bryant, Ashlynne, Cole, Courtney, Gregg and Drew; five stepgrandchildren, Josh Jeremy, Gabe, John and Dale; and a brother, Alan (Betty) Beever of Leesburg, Fla.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, C. Robert Hurlow; a daughter, Marilyn Albert; a granddaughter, Renee Albert; and her stepmother, Minnie (Baker) Beever.

Friends may call today from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, where an Eastern Star service will follow at 8. A funeral service will be held Tuesday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Mr. Jerold Tier officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.

E. ‘Janie’ Reed
MOUNT VERNON — Elizabeth “Janie” (Goossens) Reed, 52, of Monroe Street, Mount Vernon, passed away Sunday, Feb. 21, 2004, at her residence.

She was born Aug. 5, 1951, to Joseph and Frances (Auskings) Goossens Sr. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4027 and AMVETS Post 95, both of Mount Vernon.

She is survived by her loving husband, Elmer Reed; three sons, Kenneth (Amanda) Johnson of Mount Vernon, Jeffrey (Debra) Johnson of Newark and Curtis (Leonard Russell) Johnson of Kona, Hawaii; a grandson, Joseph W. Johnson; a brother, Joseph (Linda) Goossens Jr. of Mount Vernon; four sisters, Ruby monk of Lawrenceville, Ga., Mary (Rodney) Elam of St. Joseph, Mo., Ruth (Gary) Bates of Fairfield and Teresa (Monty) Anderson of Durant, Okla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a nephew, Phillip Michael Goossens.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate the life of Janie Reed on Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. at the AMVETS recreational room, 206 W. Ohio Ave., Mount Vernon. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.
