James V. Kennedy Memorial notice
HILLSBORO, Ore. — Dr. James Vincent Kennedy, 81, of Hillsboro, Ore., and formerly of Mount Vernon, passed away on Sunday, Jan. 25, 2004, at his daughter’s home in Oregon.

Friends may call Friday from 5 to 7 p.m. and Saturday from noon to 2 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home, where funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. Burial with full military honors provided by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.

Chris A. Miller
DANVILLE — Christian A. “Chris” Miller, 82, of 17000 Pritchard Road, Danville, died Monday, Feb. 23, 2004, in Noble County.

He was born July 17, 1921, in Holmes County to Abraham D. and Sovilla (Yoder) Miller. He was a member of the Amish Church.

He is survived by his wife, Ada (Yoder) Miller, whom he married on Nov. 26, 1942; five sons, Eli of Texas, Abe and Alvin of Iowa, Dan of Arkansas and David of the home; seven daughters, Betty (Felty) Yoder of Salem, Ky., Anna (Amos) Kauffman of Jamesport, Mo., Sovilla (Emanuel) Rober of Hazelton, Iowa, Emma (John) Yutzy of Edgewood, Iowa, Ida (Menno) Yoder of Granton, Wis., Ada (Allen) Mast of Fairbank, Iowa, and Sara (Jonas) Hershberger of Danville; 92 grandchildren; and 60 great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, a son, a daughter and a grandson.
The funeral will be Friday at 9 a.m. at the home. Bishop Albert Hershberger will officiate. Burial will be in Mast Cemetery. Friends may call at the home anytime. The Fischer Funeral Home in Danville is assisting the family with arrangements.

E. ‘Janie’ Reed
MOUNT VERNON — Elizabeth “Janie” (Goossens) Reed, 52, of Monroe Street, Mount Vernon, passed away Saturday, Feb. 21, 2004, at her residence.

She was born Aug. 5, 1951, to Joseph and Frances (Auskings) Goossens Sr. She was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4027 and AMVETS Post 95, both of Mount Vernon.

She is survived by her loving husband, Elmer Reed; three sons, Kenneth (Amanda) Johnson of Mount Vernon, Jeffrey (Debra) Johnson of Newark and Curtis (Leonard Russell) Johnson of Kona, Hawaii; a grandson, Joseph W. Johnson; a brother, Joseph (Linda) Goossens Jr. of Mount Vernon; four sisters, Ruby monk of Lawrenceville, Ga., Mary (Rodney) Elam of St. Joseph, Mo., Ruth (Gary) Bates of Fairfield and Teresa (Monty) Anderson of Durant, Okla.; and several nieces and nephews.

Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a nephew, Phillip Michael Goossens.

A celebration of the life of Janie Reed was Tuesday at the AMVETS recreational room, 206 W. Ohio Ave., Mount Vernon. The Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home assisted the family with arrangements.

Sue Wilson
MOUNT VERNON — Sue Wilson, 64, of Sychar Road, Mount Vernon, died Tuesday, Feb. 24, 2004, at St. Ann’s Hospital in Westerville. The Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
