Jane Arrington
PORTSMOUTH, Va. — Jane (Mackey) Arrington, 83, of the 4300 block of Deep Creek Boulevard, Portsmouth, Va., passed away peacefully Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004.

She was a native of Mount Vernon and was the daughter of the late Charles W. and Rose (Stark) Mackey. She retired as an accounting clerk from The Famous after more than 16 years of service. She was a member of Cottage Place United Methodist Church and the Lucille Johnson Circle. Mrs. Arrington worked for more than 16 years in the nursery of the church. She was a graduate of Mount Vernon High School, where she graduated as a member of the National Honor Society and recently attended her 65th class reunion. Jane was a member of the Ladies Railroad Society and The Miriam Chapter 94 OES. She also was a member of Beasley’s, Temple Baptist and Calvary Baptist Senior Citizens Groups. Mrs. Arrington had been a volunteer at The Portsmouth Naval Museum with over 500 hours of service.

Jane leaves behind her husband of more than 63 years, John; two sons, John (Barbara) Arrington II and David C. (Marie) Arrington; three grandchildren, John M. Arrington, Amber M. (Don) Fox and Cammie J. (Jason) Lewis; one great-grandson, Braxton C. Lewis; and two special grandchildren, Timothy R. and Barbara A. Dolliver.

A funeral service will be Wednesday, Dec. 8, at 11 a.m. in the Mausoleum Chapel of Greenlawn Memorial Gardens. The Rev. Lynne Hundley will officiate. An Eastern Star service will be today at 7 p.m. in the Portsmouth Boulevard Chapel of Sturtevant Funeral Home, Portsmouth, Va. The family will receive friends following the service until 8:30 p.m. and will be at her residence at all other times.

The family requests that in lieu of flowers memorials be made in honor of Mrs. Arrington to the Cottage Place United Methodist Church, Jamestown Avenue and Queen Street, Portsmouth, VA 23704.

James E. Bowman
MOUNT VERNON — James E. Bowman, 81, of Mount Vernon passed away Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004, at The Laurels of Mount Vernon. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon.

L. Jeannette Elliott
GAMBIER — L. Jeannette (Wagner) Elliott, 78, of Gambier died Dec. 6, 2004, at The Laurels of Mount Vernon.

She was born on July 24, 1926, in Utica to Emmanuel H. and Dora M. (Parks) Wagner. She was a member of the Community Christian Fellowship Church. She was a 1944 Homer High School graduate, and a graduate of the Newark School of Nursing in 1947. She retired from Cooper-Bessemer after 28 years as an industrial nurse.

She is survived by her husband of 56 years, Charles Elliott; two sons, Robert Elliott and Ronald (Marilyn) Elliott, both of Gambier; four grandsons, Joshua (Alissa) Elliott, and Jason, John and Wyatt Elliott; two granddaughters, Rachel Elliott and Jennifer Wolfe; two great-granddaughters, Alivia Elliott and Ellie Wolfe; two sisters, Catherine Hunter of Utica and Hazel (Charles) Birkhimer of Columbus; and one brother, Jim (Jean) Wagner of Homer.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Robert and George Wagner; two sisters, Martha Wagner and Erma Hunter; and a daughter-in-law, Rita J. Elliott

Friends may call Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Community Christian Fellowship Church, 23436 Newcastle Road, Gambier, and one hour prior to time of service on Thursday. Funeral service will be held Thursday at 11 a.m. at Community Christian Fellowship Church with Bob Pelfrey officiating. Burial will be in Union Grove Cemetery. The North-Dilley Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.

Rose Punt
MOUNT VERNON — Rose Punt, 60, of North Main Street, Mount Vernon, passed away Monday, Dec. 6, 2004, at the Rose Garden Nursing Home. Arrangements are under the care and direction of the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home.

Linda Bateman Spellman
MOUNT VERNON — Linda Lee Bateman Spellman, 63, of Mount Vernon passed away Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, at her residence following an extended illness.

She was born Sept. 26, 1941, in Steubenville to Laverne G. and Elizabeth (Woods) Hess. Linda was a 1959 graduate of the Mount Vernon High School and was member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church. She was also a drug counselor at The Freedom Center.

She is survived by her loving husband, Glenn Spellman, whom she married Nov. 26, 1993; a son, Jeff Bateman of Mount Vernon; a daughter, Terri Craig of East Brady, Pa.; two stepsons, Glenn Spellman Jr. of Alabama and Michael Spellman of Mount Vernon; two stepdaughters, Sussann Deshong of Mount Vernon and Tamara Beeman of North Carolina.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a son, Daniel Bateman; three brothers, Gary Hess, Brice Hess and Larry Hess; and a sister, Clara Finnell.

A memorial service will be held at a later date. Services are through the care and direction of the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home.
