Ruth N. Murphy
SPRINGFIELD — Ruth Naomi Murphy, 89, of Springfield died Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, in Mercy McAuley Center, Urbana.

She was born in Fredericktown on May 15, 1915, the daughter of Arthur Thomas and Ethel (Heredeen) Smith. She was formerly a clerk at the Wren’s Department Store in Springfield and was a member of the Oakland Presbyterian Church.

She is survived by her children, Gordon (Phyllis) Murphy and Diena Bair and her friend Gary Evilsizor; grandchildren, Kim, Kathy, Connie, Annette and Andrea; 11 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Wendell (Namie) Smith.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gerald R. Murphy; brothers, Donald and Kenneth; and a sister, Helen.

Funeral was Wednesday at Jackson Lytle & Ingling Williams in Springfield, with the Rev. Anita James officiating. Burial was in Forest Cemetery at Fredericktown.

The family would like to thank all of her friends and family at the McAuley Center for their care and friendship over the past few years.

C. Dan Riffle
SUNBURY — Carl “Dan” Riffle, 52, of Sunbury died Wednesday morning, Dec. 8, 2004, at St. Catherine’s Care Center, Findlay.

He was born Nov. 25, 1952, in Mount Gilead and graduated from Big Walnut High School in 1972. A lifelong resident of Sunbury, he had worked for the maintenance department of Big Walnut Schools and was a member of the Olive Green Corner Stone Community Church. He led a colorful life, was close to his family, enjoyed cars, and aspired to be a member of the Sunbury Police Department.

He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Lucille and Elbin Rutherford of Sunbury; his father, Carl Riffle of Fort Worth, Texas; sister and her fiancé, Helen Riffle and Bob Chamber of Mount Gilead; and brothers, Bill Riffle (Toni Gwinn) of Mount View, Ark., and Jeff (Sally) Rutherford of Marengo.

Friends may call Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at DeVore-Snyder Funeral Home, Ohio 3 at 61, Sunbury, where funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. Burial will follow in Africa Cemetery.

Linda Bateman Spellman Memorial Notice
MOUNT VERNON — Linda Lee Bateman Spellman, 63, of Mount Vernon passed away Sunday, Dec. 5, 2004, at her residence following an extended illness. A memorial service will be held Sunday, Dec. 12, at 1 p.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church with Pastor Mark Wildermuth officiating. Fernand ‘Bob’ Suain
MOUNT VERNON — Fernand Robert “Bob” Suain, 77, of Tucker Road, Mount Vernon, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 7, 2004, at Knox Community Hospital.

He was born Dec. 18, 1926, in Hazelhurst, Pa., to Joseph and Marie (Francart) Suain. Mr. Suain retired in 1984 from Pittsburgh Plate Glass where he worked over 30 years as a glass cutter. He was a member of the National Rifle Association and was a proud member of the Big Buck Club of Ohio.

He is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Audrey (Welsh) Suain; three sons, Rexford (Rebecca) Suain of Columbus, Daniel (Donna) Suain of Columbus and Kenneth (June) Suain of Mount Vernon; six grandchildren, Mabel (Curt) Keegan, Kevin (Raygene) Suain, Nathan (Billie) Suain, Amanda Suain, Chauncey Suain and Nira Hallman; and four great-grandchildren, Tyler, Tori, Brandon and Colton Robert.

Besides his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Joseph Suain Jr. and Jack Suain; three sisters, Leona Weissenrieder, Jean Carrow and Virginia Freer; and a great-grandson, Devin Keegan.

Friends may call Friday from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Dowds-Snyder Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held Saturday at 11 a.m. at the Faith Lutheran Church.
