Eva V. Hall
CHARDON TOWNSHIP — Eva V. (Blair) Hall, 92, of Chardon Township, died Jan.
11, 2005, at her home.
She was born July 18, 1912, in Mount Vernon to Thomas and Martha (Cross) Blair. She lived in Mentor for three years and Gates Mills for 20 years before moving to Chardon Township in 1993. Mrs. Hall moved from Mount Vernon in 1943. She was a 1930 graduate of Gambier High School, and played on the state championship basketball team in 1929. She had worked at the Welshfield Inn in the late 1940s and early ’50s. She also worked at the Valley Hardware in Chagrin Falls and Woolworth’s Counter in Kent.
She married Ernest L. Hall in Wheeling, W.Va., on Feb. 19, 1931. She was a homemaker. In her younger years, she helped her husband on the Kaufman Farm in Auburn Township, milking cows, driving the tractor. At times, Mrs. Hall would milk up to 25 cows in an evening. She was bailing hay the day before her daughter, Beverly, was born.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by daughter, Barbara (Ronald) Vopicka of Euclid; sons, Robert T. Hall of Ravenna and Dwight E. (Christie) Hall of Newbury Township; 14 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; sisters: Ruby Graubauh and Dorothy Blair of Mount Vernon.
She was preceded in death by her daughter, Beverly McElravy; sons, Ernest L. Hall Jr. and Gerald H. Hall; grandchild, Jodie Lynn Hall; great-grandchild, Joshua Whaley; and brothers, Glen and Dale Blair.
Visitation will be today from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. at Burr Funeral Home, 116 South St., Chardon. The funeral will be Friday at 10 a.m. at the Bainbridge Community Church, 17751 Chillcothe Road, Bainbridge Township. Pastor Jill Goodman of the church will officiate. Kathryn M. Hewitt
MOUNT VERNON — Kathryn M. Hewitt, 83, of Mount Vernon died Jan. 12, 2005,
at The Ohio State University Hospital, Columbus.
She was born Jan. 27, 1921, in Cleveland to Conrad M. and Katherine M. (Collins) Wallin. She was a member of the St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church and the Knox County Historical Society. She was a graduate of the Vil Angela Academy.
She is survived by her husband, Gary Hewitt, to whom she had been married 61 years; three daughters, Mary M. Hewitt of Port Townsend, Wash., Kathryn (Bob) White of Mount Vernon and Amy (Sean) Burns of Lexington; five sons, Gary (Suzie) Hewitt of Howard, Peter Hewitt, Stephen (Martha) Hewitt and John (Valerie) Hewitt, all of Columbus, and Douglas (Lori) Hewitt of Boulder, Colo.; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one sister, Margaret Wallin of Euclid.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a sister, Ruth Morris.
Friends may call Friday from 6 to 8 p.m. at the North-Dilley Funeral Home, where rosary service will be recited Friday at 7:45 p.m. The funeral will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at St. Vincent de Paul Catholic Church, with the Rev. Ted Thomas officiating.
