Shirley J. Devore
BRINKHAVEN — Shirley Jean (Tomes) Devore, 65, of Township Road 136, Brinkhaven,
died Wednesday, May 4, 2005, at Aultman Health Care in Canton.
She was born April 1, 1940, in Knox County to Shelby R. and Florence (Fry) Tomes. On June 27, 1959, she was married to George Devore.
She is survived by her mother, Florence Tomes of Howard; her husband, George; three daughters, Yvonne (Raymond) Lepley of Millersburg, Georgia (Tim) Hagans of Danville and Gwen (Pat) Finnell of Danville; a son, George (Tabitha) Devore Jr. of Brinkhaven; 12 grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren; a sister, Bethel (Ron) Totman of Mount Vernon; two brothers, Tom (Becky) Tomes of Coshocton and Larry (Linda) Tomes of Mount Vernon; and several nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Saturday, May 7, at 1 p.m. in the Fischer Funeral Home, Danville. Sheila Kent will officiate. Burial will be in Workman Cemetery at Danville. Visiting hours will be Friday from 6 to 8 p.m., and at Shirley’s request there will be no viewing.
Jean Kilkenny
COLUMBUS — Jean Bebout Yarrington Kilkenny, 86, of Columbus, originally
from Mount Vernon, died Sunday, May 1, 2005.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Col. William Ray Yarrington; and daughter, Sally Ann Belden.
She is survived by her husband, John Kilkenny, retired U.S. Army; daughters, Sue and Jo; grandchildren, Hank, Max, Anne and Will; and great-grandson, Ben.
She was a member of Overbrook Presbyterian Church and Kappa Delta Sorority, and was a graduate of The Ohio State University.
Funeral will be Saturday at 3 p.m. at Weir-Arend Funeral Home, 4221 N. High St., Columbus, (614) 268-3593, where family will receive friends one hour prior, and following, the service. Pastor William R. Leety will officiate and private family interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va.
Family asks that in lieu of flowers, contributions be made in her name to Overbrook Presbyterian Church, 4131 N. High St., Columbus, OH 43214; or the Central Ohio Chapter of the Alzheimer Foundation, 3380 Tremont Road, Columbus, OH 43221.
George D. Reed
MOUNT VERNON — George Donald Reed, 68, of Mount Vernon died May 3, 2005,
at Knox Community Hospital.
He was born Dec. 15, 1936, in Barnesville to George William and Margarite G. (McCleary) Reed. He was a member of Colonial City Baptist Church, Men’s Prayer Breakfast and an avid YMCA member. He was a 1954 Mount Vernon High School graduate and a Navy veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Marcella “Polly” Reed, to whom he had been married 39 years; two sons, Phillip M. (Shirley) Frost and Nick (Maggie) Frost, both of Mount Vernon; a daughter, Becky Bates of Mount Vernon; a sister, Judith (Lee) Isom of Florida; a brother, Sherry G. Reed of New York; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; and an aunt, Ruth McCleary of Mount Vernon.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Friends may call on Friday from 5 to 8 p.m. at the North-Dilley Funeral Home. Funeral service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Colonial City Baptist Church with Pastor Dan Whisner officiating. Burial will be in Friendship Cemetery with military honors being conducted by the Knox County Joint Veterans Council.
