Wayne W. Mooney
MOUNT LIBERTY — Wayne William Mooney, 74, of Mount Liberty died Friday,
Aug. 5, 2005, at Riverside Methodist Hospital in Columbus.
Mr. Mooney retired from PPG in Mount Vernon and the state of Ohio. He was a member of Advent Christian Church in Mount Liberty.
He is survived by his fiancee, Shirley Norman; children, Janet (Homer) Rogers of Mount Liberty, Roxanne Worley of Mount Liberty, and Steven W. Mooney and Luanne (Roger) Frye, both of Mount Vernon; grandchildren, Anita (Bradford) McDaniel of Utica, Joseph M. Worley of Mount Liberty, Scott (Becky) Rogers of Mount Liberty, and Christopher L. Frye and Raymond W. Frye, both of Mount Vernon; great-grandchildren, Morgan W. McDaniel, Lindsay McDaniel, Shawn Rogers, Scarlett Rogers, Wyatt Rogers and Sarah Rogers; and a brother, Lowell E. (Shirleen) Mooney of Mount Liberty.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Florence Mooney.
Friends may call Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Johnson-Melick-Moreland Funeral Home, 49 W. Church St., Centerburg. Funeral service will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at the Advent Christian Church, Columbus Road, Mount Liberty. Pastor Carl Hankins will officiate. Interment in Mount Liberty Cemetery.
Ruth Palmer
MOUNT VERNON — Ruth (Daniels) Palmer, 89, of Mount Vernon died Saturday,
Aug. 6, 2005, at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.
She was born Nov. 5, 1915, in Mount Vernon to Arthur and Ida (Smith) Daniels and had spent her lifetime in the Mount Vernon and Newark areas. She was a graduate of Fredericktown High School and Bliss Business College. Ruth was employed as office manager for 15 years at the former Cochran Motor Sales in Mount Vernon and retired from Airesman Electric in Newark. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Newark and had served as past president for the Newark Credit Managers Association.
Surviving are her brother, Darwin D. (Betty) Daniels of Mount Vernon; her niece, Linda (Dick) McCluskey of Mount Vernon; her nephew, Larry (Judie) Daniels of Westerville; and great-nieces and great-nephews.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her first husband, Donald Roby, in 1952; and second husband, E.E. “Tate” Palmer, in 1988.
Funeral service will be Tuesday at 1 p.m. at the Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home in Mount Vernon with the Rev. Philip McMurrin officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home two hours before the funeral. Burial will be in Mound View Cemetery at Mount Vernon.

Gale R. Whitacre
HOWARD — Gale R. Whitacre, 72, of Apple Valley, formerly of Clintonville,
died suddenly Wednesday, Aug. 3, 2005.
Mr. Whitacre retired from Battelle Institute after 38 years of service as a research scientist in heat transfer. He worked closely with NASA, the Alaskan pipeline project, and the development of Pringles potato chips. A graduate of Goshen High School in Belloit, he received his undergraduate at the University of Cincinnati where he was first in his engineering class. He received his master’s degree from Purdue University and was a doctoral candidate at The Ohio State University. He was a member of numerous engineering societies, the Acacia Fraternity, and was active in numerous parent organizations and support groups. He was a former member of North Broadway United Methodist Church, Columbus, and a current member of Mulberry Street United Methodist Church, Mount Vernon. He was an avid bird lover; gardener; OSU football fan; and as one of the original owners, he loved Apple Valley Lake.
He was preceded in death by parents, Clyde and Gladys (Ward) Whitacre.
He is survived by wife, Dolores “Dodie” of 48 years; children, Sue (Mike) John of Ellicott City, Md., David (Mary) Whitacre of Mount Vernon and Sandra Whitacre of Grove City; grandchildren, Shane Whitacre, Kasey John, Gary John, Lara John, Caroline John and Luke Whitacre; sister, Glenda (Cliff) Nolt, San Jose, Calif.; niece, Kim (Keith) Prader of Boulder Creek, Calif.; and nephew, Kevin Nolt of San Francisco, Calif.
Funeral service will be held Tuesday at 10 a.m. at Schoedinger North Chapel, 5554 Karl Road, Columbus, where family will receive friends today from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Graveside service and interment will be Tuesday at 12:30 p.m. in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens. Pastor Rodney Buchanan will officiate.
