James M. Carhart
LONG BEACH, Calif. — James Micheal “Mike” Carhart died Aug. 7, 2005, at Memorial Hospital, Long Beach, Calif., after a long battle with cancer.

Mike was born July 24, 1939, in Mount Vernon, Ohio, lived in Millwood and graduated from Howard in 1958. He was the son of Paul W. Carhart and Vonnie L. (Gadd) Carhart-Baker.

He was preceded in death by his mother and father; and grandparents, Hubert and Marie Carhart, and Allie and Andrew Gadd.

Surviving are his wife, Roberta; son, Paul (Lori), and granddaughter, Melody Hannah Carhart, of Colorado Springs, Colo.; sons, James Carhart and Brian Carhart of Long Beach, Calif.; his daughter, Cheryl (Joseph), and granddaughter, Violet Leona Benitez of Long Beach, Calif.; sister, Carol Cline-Kahle of Mansfield; uncles, John Carhart and Robert Carhart of Gallipolis; niece, Dalena (Matt) Cline-Cupp and their sons, Tyler and Evan of Powell; niece, Katrena Cline, and daughter, Chelsea, of Mansfield; and cousins in Ohio and California.

Funeral services for Mike are today in Forest Lawn Cemetery, Long Beach, Calif.

Sara ‘Sally’ Melick
FREDEICKTOWN — Sara E. “Sally” Melick, 73, of Fredericktown died Wednesday, Aug. 10, 2005, at the Country Court Nursing Center.

She was born March 10, 1932, in Fredericktown, the daughter of Harry and Marie (Ashwell) Gibson and had been a lifetime member of the community. Mrs. Melick was a member of Fredericktown First Presbyterian Church, a 50-year member of Ann Hill Chapter 81 of the Order of the Eastern Star, and 50-year member and past chief of the Pythian Sisters, Knox Temple 148, in Fredericktown. She had also been an active volunteer with Interchurch Social Services from the time they started in Fredericktown.

She is survived by her husband of 52 years, Donald Melick, whom she married Jan. 18, 1952; a daughter, Marie Melick of Columbus; two sons, Robert Melick and John (Lynn) Melick, both of Fredericktown; a granddaughter, Krista Melick; and a sister, Ruth Cordle of Fredericktown.

She was preceded in death by her parents; and a brother, William Gibson.

The Snyder Funeral Home in Fredericktown is assisting the family with arrangements and services will be held at a later date.

Daniel Staiger III
FREDERICKTOWN — Daniel E. Staiger III of Waterford Road, Fredericktown, passed away Thursday, Aug. 11, 2005, at the Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon. The arrangements are under the care and direction of the Snyder Funeral Home in Fredericktown.
