Phyllis Antill
MOUNT VERNON — Phyllis Antill, 73, of Kinney Road, Mount Vernon, passed
away Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, at Ohio State University Hospital in Columbus.
She was born Oct. 19, 1931, in Mount Vernon to Carl and Nancy (DeBolt) Vernon. She was a member of The Salvation Army Church.
She is survived by her loving husband of 54 years, Floyd Antill; two sons, David (Jean) Antill of West Nyak, N.Y., and James (Linda) Antill of Irmo, S.C.; a daughter, Nancy (Gregory) Amoroso of Mount Vernon; 13 grandchildren; 12 great-grandchildren; three brothers, Robert (Nola) Vernon of Fredericktown, George (Mary) Vernon of Los Angeles, Calif., and Jim (Phyllis) Vernon of Mount Vernon; and a sister, Mary Ryan of Mount Vernon.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a brother, John Vernon.
Friends may call Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at The Salvation Army Church, 206 E. Ohio Ave., Mount Vernon, OH 43050. A funeral service will be held at the church on Friday at 11 a.m. with Maj. Robert Bender officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens.

Roelof ‘Bill’ Beukema
DANVILLE — Roelof H. “Bill” Beukema passed away Sunday, Aug.
28, 2005, at the Morning View Care Center in Danville at the age of 95.
He was born and educated in Holland, worked in Venezuela, South America, as a mechanical engineer with the Shell de Venezuela Oil Co. for 25 years, retired to Columbus in 1961. He had lived in Knox County since 1976.
During World War II, he joined a small branch of the Royal Netherlands Army, which was trained in Canada and in Texas, and fought with the Australian and the British armies in the Dutch East Indies (now Indonesia).
Friends are invited to visit his wife, Marien, and his daughter, Connie Beukema Mengel, who has moved to Knox County from Cuyahoga Falls. Friends are invited to their home in Howard from 2 to 5 p.m. on Saturday afternoon, Sept. 17.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Knox County or to the Morning View Care Center in Danville.

MOUNT VERNON — Paul G. Crawford, 96, of Mount Vernon died Aug. 30, 2005,
at Knox Community Hospital. The North-Dilley Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
Leila G. Gutridge
NEWARK — Leila G. Gutridge, 87, of Newark died Sunday, Aug. 28, 2005, at
her residence.
She was born Oct. 14, 1917, in Licking County to Herbert and Frances McKee. She was a member of the Central Christian Church and 50-year member of the Madison Grange. Leila retired from the Northridge school system.
She is survived by daughters, Sharon Kaye (Robert) Brazeal of Missouri and Janet White of Mount Vernon; grandson, Michael (Amanda) Brazeal of Howard; and a sister, Virginia Brake of Utica.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Arthur O. Gutridge, in 1990; brothers, George and Wilbur McKee; a sister, Nellie Raines; and son-in-law, Ron White.
Friends may call Thursday from 5 to 8 p.m. at Criss-Schoedinger Funeral Home, Newark, where a funeral service will be Friday at 10:30 p.m. Pastor Jim Young will officiate. Burial will be in Fairmount Cemetery.

James G. Harsany Memorial notice
MOUNT VERNON — A memorial service to celebrate James G. Harsany’s
life and to share fond memories will take place Saturday, Sept. 3, at 5 p.m. at
the Seventh-day Adventist Hill Church, 403 Wooster Ave., Mount Vernon. A light
meal will be served downstairs in the church Fellowship Hall following the service
for all family, church family and friends. Everyone is invited to join family
in remembering and honoring Jim.
Jim died July 7, 2005, at Knox Community Hospital, he has been cremated and his ashes will be interred at Mound View Cemetery on Tuesday, Sept. 6, at 10 a.m. in a private family service.
Betty J. O’Brien
MOUNT VERNON — Betty J. O’Brien, 74, of Broadway Street, Mount Vernon,
passed away Monday, Aug. 29, 2005, at Knox Community Hospital in Mount Vernon.
She was born July 26, 1931, in Bellville to Charles and Margaret (Steigwalt) Stevens. Mrs. O’Brien enjoyed sewing and knitting, but loved nothing more than spending quality time with her family.
She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, William O’Brien; a son, Gary (Julie) O’Brien of Mount Vernon; two daughters, Barbara (Jay) Morris of Mount Vernon and Nancy (John) Wolford of Mount Vernon; five grandchildren, Gary O’Brien Jr., Kyle O’Brien, Teresa Brate, Laura Mabe and Corey Dailey; three great-grandchildren; and three sisters, Mary Mawer of Mount Vernon, Helen Singer of Mansfield and Dort Bennett of Clearwater, Fla.
Besides her parents she was preceded in death by a son, William “Billy” O’Brien; two brothers, Don Stevens and Bus Stevens; and two sisters, Bonnie Beaman and Viola Fox.

Bernice R. Young
MOUNT VERNON — Bernice R. Young, 87, of Columbus Road, Mount Vernon, passed
away unexpectedly at her home Monday, Aug. 29, 2005.
She was born May 23, 1918, in Washington, Pa., to William and Evelyn (Galley) Wilson. Bernice was a member of the First Christian Church in Mount Vernon and attended the Fredericktown United Methodist Church.
She is survived by her daughter, Donna Lee Broadway of Westerville; a son, William (Linda) Young of New Brighton, Pa.; five grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Lois Roddy of California and Margaret Charlton of Virginia.
In addition to her parents, Bernice was preceded in death by her husband of over 60 years, the Rev. William Young; and three brothers.
There will be no calling hours. A memorial service will be Saturday, Sept. 3, beginning at 1 p.m. at the First Christian Church, 110 E. Vine St. The Rev. Jamie Gump will officiate. A private burial will be in Mound View Cemetery at a later date. The arrangements are under the care and direction of Flowers-Snyder Funeral Home.

Jennie L. Youst
PLANT CITY, Fla. — Graveside funeral services for Jennie L. Youst, 93 of
Plant City, Fla., will be held Friday, Sept. 2, 2005, at 11 a.m. in Hanover Cemetery
with Jeffrey Sperling officiating.
Mrs. Youst died Sunday, Aug. 28, 2005, in Florida. She was born March 21, 1912, in Licking County to the late James E. and Wilma (Giffen) Gault. Mrs. Youst moved to Florida in 1984 after living most of her life in Mount Vernon.
She is survived by a daughter, Anna M. Burke of Plant City, Fla.; son, Joseph J. Youst of Mount Vernon; four grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Merrill F. Youst, Dec. 23, 1973; sister, Verne Grace Gault; brothers, L. Edson Gault, Russell T. Gault and J. Wendell Gault.
