Dorothy “Dot’ Abbott
UTICA — A funeral service for Dorothy E. “Dot” Abbott, 80, of
Utica will be Friday, Nov. 24, at 8 p.m. at Utica Church of Christ, 115 N. Central
Ave., where friends may call from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Alan Pratt will officiate.
Private burial will follow at a later date in Newark Memorial Gardens.
Dorothy died Nov. 21, 2006, at her residence. She was born Dec. 24, 1925, in Newark to Ray E. and Effie E. (Slagle) Shrock. Dot was a self-employed upholsterer for 40 years, followed by 15 years working as a stained glass artist and instructor.
She is survived by her husband, Lester A. Abbott of Utica, whom she married June 1966; sons, Everett (Josie) Jacks Jr. of Newark, Jeffrey (Amy) Abbott of Panama City, Fla., Michael Abbott of Chesapeake, Va.; daughters, Joyce Finley of Newark, Margaret “Peg” (Joe) Heckman of Johnstown, Kimberly Jacks of Wooster, Holly (Rodney) Hoskinson of Newark; 24 grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; brothers, Donald Shrock of Mansfield, Ray E. (Jean) Shrock of Kansas City, Mo.; sister, Mina Darnes of Newark; close special friend, Bette Jones; many loving friends, neighbors and cat, Dolly.
She was preceded in death by her parents; daughter, Penny Jacks Long; brothers, Harold and David Shrock; sisters, Helen Gravens and Ruth Kendall; brother-in-law, John Darnes.

Cover D. Carpenter
GRAND RAPIDS, Ohio — Cover Doyle Carpenter, 83, of Grand Rapids, formerly
of Toledo, passed away Sunday, Nov. 19, 2006.
He was born Aug. 14, 1923, in Howard to William and Pearl Carpenter. Mr. Carpenter retired as a foreman from Surface Combustion in Toledo after 40 years of employment. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II serving in the 10th Mountain Ski Trooper Division, receiving the Bronze Star for combat in the Apennine Mountains and in Italy. Cover was a member of Hosanna Lutheran Church and the VFW, both in Grand Rapids, Mich.
Surviving are three daughters, Carla (Dennis) Snell of Toledo, Cindy (David) Skinner of Monclova and Lisa Stoehr of Mount Vernon; five grandchildren, Eric Snell, Kelly-Jo Cooper, Bryan and Andrea Skinner, and Elliot Stoehr; and great-grandchild, Jasten Cooper.
Private visitation and funeral service will be held in the Wright Funeral Home, Grand Rapids. Military rites and burial will follow in Mount Pleasant Cemetery, Grand Rapids. Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice. Online condolences may be expressed at www.wrightfuneralhomes.com.

Arnold E. Mullins
ST. LOUISVILLE — A funeral service for Arnold E. Mullins, 73, of St. Louisville
will be Saturday, Nov. 25, at 11 a.m. at Law-Baker Funeral Home with Pastor Jerry
Owens officiating. Burial will follow in Mount Zion Cemetery, Bladensburg.
Arnold died Nov. 21, 2006, at Knox Community Hospital, Mount Vernon. He was born Feb. 27, 1933, in Floyd County, Ky., to Milton and Norma (Hall) Mullins. Arnold was a self-employed welder and livestock hauler. He loved his grandchildren, horses and hunting.
He is survived by his wife, Oma W. (Newsome) Mullins of St. Louisville; sons, Arnold Keith (Candance) Mullins of St. Louisville, Danny (Rita) Mullins of Frazeysburg; daughters, Kathleen (John) Shoemaker of Centerburg, Sherry (Robert) Duvall of St. Louisville; six grandchildren, Christopher Mullins, Joseph Mullins, Jeffery Mullins, Jodi Cook, Joshua Shoemaker, Jacob Duvall; eight great-grandchildren; brothers, Milton Mullins Jr. of Utica, George L. (Florene) Mullins of Valley Station, Ky., Gary (Sherry) Mullins of Virgie, Ky.; sister, Mary Ann (Bill) Thornsburry of Pike County, Ky.
He was preceded in death by his parents; grandson, Cameron Mullins; brother, Bobby Joe Mullins; and sister, Cleo Spears.
